Usually, PhD students pay the student body contribution of 15,73 €. You can decide if you want to pay when you enroll. On the certificate of enrolment, the name is always followed by “Ersthörer*in” (first listener) if students pay the full fee.
How much does it cost to attend a stage performance with the KulturTicket?
You pay only 1 Euro per visit! But this only applies to you personally.
Which events can I use it for?
ESSEN: Almost all events of the Essen Theatre and Philharmonie (opera, ballet, drama, concert). For premieres and similar events, KulturTicket tickets may be available at the box office.
DUISBURG: In-house productions and guest performances in the Theater Duisburg, performances of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the Theater Duisburg, concerts of the Philharmonic Orchestra in the Mercatorhalle and in the Theater Duisburg.
Where and how do I get the ticket?
ESSEN: You must submit an application form and a current certificate of enrollment (date of birth, matriculation number and number of semesters can be blacked out) to the Theater Essen once. This can be done by e-mail to email@example.com or by post. You will then receive the KulturTicket by post, which you must have with you and present at every visit. The student identity card on its own is not enough. Click here for the form: Antrag KulturTicket
DUISBURG: Before you make your first purchase at the checkout, you simply have to fill out a short form and present your current certificate of enrollment – that’s it. Once you have registered, all you have to do for further performances is present your current certificate of enrolment.
When can I buy a ticket for a performance?
ESSEN: You can book a ticket until up to 7 days before a performance. The reservation is valid until the day before the performance, so you have to buy the ticket until then. You can also ask for tickets spontaneously at the box office, but there is no guarantee that tickets will be available. The online purchase of a ticket is not possible. Online reservations are possible, but there is no claim to a specific seat.
DUISBURG: Up to 7 days before a performance you can buy a ticket at the door (“Abendkasse”) and at the presale at the theatre box office. The offer is subject to availability; there is no claim to specific seats.
Who can I contact if I have further questions?
Press release on the introduction of the KulturTicket
Students of the University of Duisburg-Essen can now attend events of the theatres and the Philharmonie in Essen for one Euro. TUP and AStA agree on the introduction of a KulturTicket for the winter semester 2017/2018.
From the winter semester 2017/2018, students of the University of Duisburg-Essen can see concerts or stage productions for 1 Euro: The AStA and the Essen Theatre and Philharmonic Orchestra (TUP) have now agreed on the introduction of a KulturTicket for (almost) all students at the university. From 9 October 2017, the KulturTicket will enable students to attend almost all of the events in the Aalto-Theater, the Grillo-Theater and the Philharmonie Essen for 1 euro. The basis for this long-term cooperation is a common goal: the AStA and the TUP are committed to providing students with a comprehensive cultural education. In addition, both institutions want to be received as vital components of urban life by the citizens. Berger Bergmann, managing director of the TUP, emphasizes: “We want to enable as many students as possible to visit the Aalto-Theater, the Grillo-Theater or the Philharmonie. The program of our five divisions could not be more varied. We would like young people to find their way to the theatre or to a concert – spontaneously and without financial investment. Lotti Kühnemann, AStA chairwoman at the University of Duisburg-Essen, says:
“The project is very close to our hearts because with this cooperation we can offer all students, regardless of their financial situation, the opportunity to participate in the cultural life in Essen. We are very pleased to be able to create another solidarity-based offer (like the Semesterticket and the possibility to borrow bicycles). With more cultural offers in the university cities, we hope to turn the University of Duisburg-Essen from a university characterized by its large number of commuters into a university of residence. More information can be found here: http://www.theater-essen.de/kulturticket/
Agreement with AStA: tickets for drama, opera, ballet and the Philharmonic Orchestra are now available for one Euro.
Students of the University of Duisburg-Essen can now use their Kulturticket to purchase tickets for one euro to see drama (in-house productions and guest performances in the theatre), opera & ballet (performances of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the Theater Duisburg) and concerts of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra in the Philharmonie Mercatorhalle and in the Theater Duisburg.
This is part of an agreement between the AStA and the contractual partners Kulturbetriebe Duisburg and Deutsche Oper am Rhein. In addition, the cooperation between the institutions is to be further expanded, and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Duisburg Schauspiel are to be more present on the Duisburg campus in the future.
Duisburg’s head of cultural affairs, Thomas Krützberg, explains: “I am very pleased that we can now offer the Kulturticket. At its last meeting, the Cultural Committee of the City of Duisburg cleared the way. We want to show the students how diverse and interesting (high) culture in Duisburg is and hope that many students will make use of the offer”.
Carlotta Kühnemann, Chairwoman of the AStA of the University of Duisburg-Essen, added: “University means more than just studying. We want students to be able to perceive the university and Duisburg as part of their lives. The AStA already had an agreement on a cultural ticket for Essen with the Theater and Philharmonic Orchestra (TUP) in Essen in October 2017.
Before buying their first ticket, students register once at the box office using a form; for all further visits to performances, the current certificate of study is sufficient.”
